Mother’s Day 2012

Yet another quiet, simple affair for mother’s day this year – just spending time over dinner with the whole family. Love love love times like these <3

Found a photo of mommy and I, I think this was taken last year (?) Well, it’s quite often that I hear others say that I look like my mom, but I don’t really see the resemblance… But mommy and I are really similar that’s for sure, and I love her very much.

So this year, mom and I baked cupcakes for the ladies/mothers in our church to celebrate mother’s day. So we baked some pretty cupcakes :)

These were just regular vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing, simple yet pretty at the same time! Hope the mothers in church enjoyed eating them as much as I did baking them :)

Bake #2

Round 2 of baking after the exams: Oreo cupcakes – an overdose of oreos, really.

Mini oreos at the base of the cupcakes

Freshly baked (topless) oreo cupcakes :)

All boxed up and ready to be given away!

I think the oreo cupcakes tasted better than they looked, but I’m not too sure. Because honestly, I’m actually not a fan of (eating) cupcakes. I enjoy baking them but eating them is not really my thing. But well, do look out for an upcoming post about the pretty mother’s day cupcakes I just baked today! It’ll be up soon I promise :)

It’s been almost a week of holidays, and I’ve been resting and doing a lot of “nothing”. Sometimes such nothing-ness is good, but I’m guessing if it’s going to be happening for a prolonged period of time, it’s going to be detrimental. I’m trying to make some progress in my “find a temp job” mission, but it really is hard to find a job that I really want to do. And then again, I’m picky like that. Well, it’s quite sad (and makes me a wee bit jelly) to see everyone going overseas, travelling and all that, while I am still stuck here in sunny Singapore, still deliberating if going to bkk this holiday is possible. It happens when you plan trips with others cause you need to find the best time to travel. For me, I’ll be like “wanna go?” “okay!” “let’s go!!!”, BUT sadly, I think I probably don’t have the means to finance my own trip there, or maybe I do… Well, one week of holidays gone just like that. Not too sure if all this “nothing-to-do-ness” is a bad thing or a good thing, we’ll see, we’ll wait and see.

130 Cupcakes

The exams are over now (like finally?), and it’s bye bye year 2 and hello year 3. It’s been a relatively good semester for me, so thank God! It hasn’t quite sunk in yet that the long holidays (till Aug) are here, but I do find myself having a lot of “nothing-to-do” moments… Maybe as the weeks pass, it will sink in. But I have to stress one thing: I’m going to earn some $$ this holiday. I MUST. I sort-of got a job offer right after my exams – bake cupcakes :) My first time baking so many but it was good experience, and I’m thankful for my mommy’s help as well. Cupcakes were well-received (to my relief.. was worried because I didn’t think they would) although I do note that those lil cakes were mega-sweet. Sugar overload I would say. Here’s a little peek at how the cupcakes turned out:

Look at the many sticks of butter in my fridge! :O

Oh, the shopping for the baking essentials+ingredients was quite an experience. Lugging home about 30 eggs, 2kg of flour, 2kg of sugar… I think I developed some arm muscles that day, no kidding.

Freshly baked cupcakes.

With frosting and the sprinkles now, colourful and pretty, I like! :)

Off to the boxes they go…

All the cupcakes ready to be delivered.

Thank you to my daddy who became the deliveryman that day (HEHE), and yay, one satisfied customer that day!

Shall leave you all with one last pic of a cupcake :)

p/s  job offers anyone? (eh, doesn’t have to be related to baking)

Therapeutic

Punching a whole string of numbers into the calculator can be quite therapeutic I must say… Either that or I’m going bonkers with all the numbers, percentages, summations and what-nots. It’s the last paper for me tomorrow, not the easiest modules (social stats) though, BUT I’M GONNA BE DONE WITH EXAMS SOON!

Here are some pictures from the night walk/run/jog on monday night. Told myself I would just walk the 7+ km, but nooooo, everyone around (mostly) so choing and enthusiastic, *sigh* so I decided to run (half the journey) too. Great workout nonetheless and it’s a little embarrassing to note that the older adults were much fitter than us young adults… :<

Back to revision now!

Family-lovin’ at Ice Edge

Just some photos from over the weekend, but before that, I’ve got to say this… ONE MORE PAPER LEFT! Can’t wait for thursday to be here already! So saturday was spent baking, studying and just hanging out with the family. Headed over to church to study with the rest and for the most part of it I was doing quite well, but other times I was just plain distracted. Then we headed down for some prawn mee and we decided to go for dessert at ice edge. It was good to take time off from studying and just spending time with the family. I think I remember going home with my mouth kinda aching because I kept talking and talking. But good times like these are/should be treasured <3

See my parents how cute, learning to take pics of themselves using the front camera :P

Well, here’s a pic of the cupcakes that I baked on Saturday, looks not bad right, and tastes not bad too! :>

Alright, gotta go for some night walk now… hoping no one actually runs/some people actually walk cause running isn’t my thing….

3/5

Exhausted would be the word that best describes me now. But it’s been so far so good, and by good I mean, good it’s over already!! I’ve pulled through three papers so far (one last week, and two papers today), I only have two more to go and then it will be hello to the holiday! Haven’t made any concrete plans for the holiday yet, but first on the list would be of course earn some $, I know I say it every single holiday… but it’s true this time! (I said that the last time too..) It’s the only way I can finance the exciting plans I have for the holidays, if they even happen!

LF High Tea + “Faith Like Potatoes”

The ladies in our church had a gathering yesterday and it was just a nice time spent with them. We started with a lil’ time of singing, followed by the screening of “Faith Like Potatoes”. You can click here to find out more about this movie! It was a tear-jerker to some, but otherwise, it was a movie that served as a reminder to place our trust in God no matter what the circumstances are. Then it was time for the high tea, and boy, the food was awesome :) We had salad, scones, cupcakes, sandwiches, coffee, tea and so much more!!!

Here are just a few pictures from yesterday’s event:

Well, I’m halfway through the exams, one down and about four papers to go!!! :)

9-5

Just my study buddy and I today. Oh and plus the pile of notes and reading….

At a glance

if only.

Burning up

So it’s the last week of school before the exams begin next week, and I am this close to finishing my essay – just need to proofread and print. And then all done with term papers, assignments, presentation and what-nots for this semester. I must say it has been quite a ‘light’ semester this semester, which means I’ll have to take/clear more modules the next one.

Anyway, I’ve been having the fever since yesterday and I put a picture of ice-cream in this post because that has been on my mind these days, with the fever and all, some icecream to cool myself down would be nice. Even walking around the house is a pleasure because the tiled floor feels so cool under my feet, and cold showers are best (for now). But with the fever and all, I seem to be more efficient (churning out an essay) and my appetite now is great! :) So being sick is not too bad after-all, right?

Well, hope the fever goes away soon though. Now to edit my essay, attend my last day of school tmrw, exams following that and then… hello holidayyyysss :)

The ‘E’ word

Essays.

One of the busiest last two weeks of semester yet, just completed one presentation yesterday (last one for the sem) and two more essays due. I just completed one of them – just need to ‘turnitin’ and print a hardcopy to submit tomorrow. And then start working on the next one due next week… Can’t wait for the semester to end!

Start

20120327-084829.jpg

Every day I begin the day with a simple prayer that goes something like this: Dear Lord, please give me strength for today. Amen. And surely He does provide me adequate strength for the day.

Today, this very morning, things were a little different. I added a little to my prayer, asking Him to make me a blessing to someone, somehow. I think it’s time I look outward, instead of always focusing only on myself… Recently, I’ve been thinking of the people in my life, by people, I mean friends, used to be friends, people I still keep in contact with, and it’s sad and regretful the numbers are not that great. I think I’m guilty for taking people for granted, but then again, some changes in these relationships seem inevitable… People change, situations change, people moving on to other stages of their lives. Well, my point here is that I’m sad that in some instances I could have done more to stay connected to these friends. I’m sure it’s not too late to start treasuring the people around me, in my life. I’m sure God has placed them there for a reason.

To friends who read this blog, well, I’m thankful for you and thankful that God has placed you all in my life… Don’t be surprised to receive a message from me, asking for a meetup or something! :) and to Mel (I know you’ll read this cause I’m gna text you to read this post hehehe), please don’t turn down my invite for my church event!

Riders Cafe + Disney on Ice

IMG_0925

It’s interesting how our meet-ups have been quite regular these days, just the four of us and I must say, we enjoy each other’s company quite alot. This time round, jkok rented a car for the weekend so it allowed us to travel to places where would be inaccessible and inconvenient for us otherwise :) After much searching on google maps and all, we made our way to Riders Cafe, and by the time we reached – it was tea time, so we had drinks, sides and dessert – but it was a filling meal nonetheless :)

Tea Scones with Clotted Cream, Preserves and Butter

Beer Battered Calamari with Kaffir Lime Aioli

Death by Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream – this was really good!

We also had the seasoned fries, but the plate was placed too far away from me so I didn’t snap a shot of it. It was great to be able to see horses as we enjoyed our food, good food and great view, but well, sometimes not that great a smell (it was bearable except maybe when the wind blew the smell in our direction…)

Us in Boots

Then we started to make our way to the Singapore Indoor Stadium for my very first Disney on Ice show! Okay, so the ticket for the show was my birthday present from danny (tyvm!) and it was suppose to be a surprise. But I’m guess I’m just good at guessing/spoiling my own surprises :) Surprise or not, I was glad that I was going to watch my very first disney on ice show!  We arrived there late though >:(  But at we didn’t miss the part with the disney princesses or I would have been devastated! We had good seats (second row) that night, so we had a chance to see the characters very clearly! I was smiling throughout the show cause I was enjoying myself very very much.

hi minnie!

Snow white and her prince

hey mickey!

aloha stitch!

daisy and donald duck were there too!

This silly-looking thing was hi-la-rious.

Amazing, no?

Company for the day/night

Thank you once again for the birthday present!

Katong Laksa for supper after, it’s my first time eating it. I actually asked why no chopsticks…

It was a splendid day for me, enjoyed every minute of it! <3

Marching on

February’s gone and March is here. WHY. SO. FAST. D: The recess week came and went by too. Though I’m certain the break was too short, I still am thankful for the time to rest and catch up on my readings and finish up the essay due when school resumed. The week started out really well for me, even though I had the 302 stats test to begin the week, but it was manageable. The whole day I was smiling away, really, I was just really joyful. Not just because the test was over and done with, but also because I started the day right! My Tuesday was okay, well except for the time when I found out my grandma had destroyed my birthday poster )))’: Today was fine too!

My parents are away in India, and these days the house’s very quiet… and I’ve also been tasked with grocery shopping! And grocery shopping means 30% of what the helper asked me to get, and 70% of snacks – Nissin cup noodles in my favourite flavors (Laksa, Tomyam and spicy seafood), Calbee hot&spicy chips and butter rolls!

So I lugged these bags home…

Well. here are some photos from my phone taken over the past week :)

We celebrated daddy’s birthday last week because he won’t be around on the actual day.

On Sunday, my dear k4t class had fruit week and I was surprised that they (some of them) actually remembered to bring a fruit to class (: so we had strawberries, oranges and grapes!

jie and I <3 it’s just the two of us at home alone this week!

look at all those numbersssss. mugging for stats

Anyway, I’ve been having rashes around my eyes lately, and they come and go and this has been going for a few days. And the rashes look like mosquito bites (like in pic below). This isn’t the worse though, once it was just below my eye and the whole eye looked super puffy…. o.O It’s probably just an allergy right?

Wicked

I decided to update today because it’s not everytime that you get to post on the 29th of February, plus it’s recess week and I’m currently taking time off my essay… have been stuck at the first point and I don’t know how to continue. Well, as the title of this post suggests, YES I FINALLY WENT TO WATCH WICKED! AND IT WAS GOOOOODDDDD! Thanks to jm who helped to get the tickets at a discounted price, so I didn’t have to burn a hole in my pocket.

So the date was set… (yes, please pardon my long list of things to do…)

got the tickets….

and off we go to enjoy the musical!

And like I said, but I’m going to say it again…. It was good! I regret not paying more for a better seat with a better view… but at least now I can say that I’ve watched the “wicked” musical :)

For ljm ♥

Do you know how hard it is to find a good shot of the both of us? :<

And we’ve grown up (and grown thinner…)

It’s been 5 years my friend! That’s how long we’ve known each other, and I thank God for placing you in my life. I still remember how we became friends – you actually taught me how to take a bus back home from school cause we just moved over to pasir ris :) And we stay on the same floor! And you live just a street away! I’ve gotten used to how everyone thinks we look alike, even though I don’t really think so… But well, it’s been great having a good friend like you. I actually miss those times we study till we both go crazy, the overnight studies and the destress nights where you come over for a game (or many games) of dutch blitz. Hopefully we’ll find time for that sometime soon… Anyway, love you so much and may the Lord continue to bless our friendship in the many years to come! :)

Well hope you liked the cake I decorated :) ))) For those who haven’t seen the picture of the cake I decorated, here it is!

21

I haven’t been updating this page as regularly as I would have liked to but really, there hasn’t been much going on in my life. Well, except for the fact that I’ve turned 21. YES TWENTY ONE. The number alone makes me feel old. Had a mini celebration over at my place with the people who have played a part (somehow) in my life.

I admit I was a little complacent with regards to the planning but I thank God that everything turned out well, much better than I had anticipated. Thanks to jie who so willingly (even I was surprised) to head across to the party shop to see what we could get to decorate the place. I came back home with a balloon bouquet with my favourite disney princesses (the ones I had been eyeing for quite awhile). If you don’t already know, I love love love the disney princesses, have loved them since I was a little girl :) And jie also helped to decorate the house! Well, I’ll just let the photos do the talking…

that’s the cupcake my sis drew for me :)

lovely cupcakes for everybody :)

I love my daddy and mommy, alot. And I thank God for my parents. All these years they have given me many things (that I wanted and asked for HEHEHE), even though I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the easiest daughter to handle. Thank you so much for everything daddy and mummy <3

And here’s one with the dear sister. Where should I begin… Hmmm. Although she always say I’m the one with no money but use the most money, she still helps me to pay for my meals when I haven’t got the cash. I enjoyed growing up with her and doing all sorts of things together with her, till now, I’m still enjoying it :) I love you jie. p/s we need to go get my present soon alright? ;)

PCH, Sis Dency, and Zhejing – Thank you for being like family to me and always taking care of jie and I. You’ve been great blessings to me. Zhejing, call me ‘jiejie cheryl’  when you see me on sunday okay? :)
Uncle Lam, Sis Angelyn and Elizabeth – You are a special family to me and I love you all alot :) Thank you for everything you’ve done for me all these years!
Mel and Jm, you’ve been great friends to have and I thank God for the both of you :) Jm, I’m glad you live just across the road, please do drop by more often for dutch blitz k! Mel, sorry for being the ‘pangseh princess’ but well, thanks for always being there :) Love you both!
My dearies (eileen, kel, jaz & xuezzzz), I love you all to bits :) Although our meet-ups are not very often, but I’m glad we can always pick up from where we left off previously… love you all babes ;)
dannytan: Thanks for helping to order the cupcakes, helping to collect them on Saturday and helping out in whatever ways you can.  You’re greatly appreciated and I thank God for you :)
Here are some of the special people in my life as well:
I think that will be (one of) the last birthday parties I’ll have for myself. I thank God for how He has protected me and constantly showered His blessings on me over the last 21 years :) I’m finally an adult!!!!!!

Catch-up

So many activities over the past month and here we are, ushering in the lunar new year :) But before we get to talking about the festivities, here’s an update on school. School’s been alright so far, and I’m really thankful for answered prayer (I got all the mods I want, plus a 3-4 day week). Other than that, I need to start catching up on my already-starting-to-pile-up readings.

Over the weekend, I got to witness two of my good friends getting married and I must say I am very happy for them – yh&yx. Like finally married!

Some photos taken on that day…

This year CNY came so fast, I didn’t really feel prepared for it – no time to get new clothes, pjs, bedsheets… But this year things were slightly different because we managed to have reunion dinner with both my dad and mom’s family, which by the way is something I have always wanted for quite a while. So I was pretty much happy to have 2 reunion dinners in a day even though it meant being stuffed and super full that evening. Well, it’s already the end of the first day of cny and here are some of my favourite photos taken so far:
Here’s one with the popo dearest. Love her soooo very much. <3
And here’s one with shaun the nephew. Oh how we have all grown up… It’s becoming a yearly affair to have our photo taken together. More of this to come!
Beginning to really enjoy time spent with family and close friends very much these days… signs of aging  maybe? ;)

Hello 2012

My my how time flies, and I realised that I haven’t officially ushered in the new year over here on my blog, so HAPPY 2012 to EVERYBODYYY! It’s been a busy start to the year, or so it seems, and many exciting days are up ahead :)

The year began with…

1. Some baking – our very own dessert pizza!

2. Some cooking…

3. Preparing for the upcoming wedding & trying out some products from Korea hehehe

4. Attending the “surprise” bridal shower
5. Attending and helping out in my cousin evelyn’s wedding :)
School’s starting (has already started) and the semester doesn’t look too good for me, but well, ready or not, Year 2 Sem 2 here I come!!!!

Korea 2011

Snow, cold temperatures, strong wind, kimchi at every meal, Teseum (teddy bear museum), Waterpia, Skiing, Everland, Jeju Island, salty crispy seaweed, tatami beds, wax museum, duty-free stores, cosmetics, nail polishes, bibimbap…

2

2 weeks of camp just passed. Feels like a long time since I went for such camps – last year I had exams so I had to miss both camps but this year I managed to get a good timetable that allowed me to attend camps, super thank God for that! I’m still trying to recover from the camps, have been catching up on my sleep these few days, trying to get as much sleep as possible before my family flies off to Korea for holiday.

Children’s Camp 2011 – The Pilgrim’s Progress

It was a privilege and a blessing to be able to serve in this camp as a helper, and I was placed in a rather nice group. I am thankful for every single one in “Hopeful Hikers”, both helpers and campers. And even though this year we seem to have kids who were younger, I thank God for the opportunity to speak to those little ones and the not-so-little ones too. One thing that I learnt in this camp is that I am indeed very blessed, some things I don’t get to face in life but some of the kids already are facing those “trials” in their lives, I remember that night when I took time to speak to J for a long while and it kinda made me upset to hear what she was going through yet I was not able to help much, except to listen, to comfort, to encourage and to pray for her. The crying episode even though was a little dramatic reminded me how the devil is real and how he is always “seeking whom he may devour”. But I’m thankful that God gave me the patience to sit through while she shared with me and told me what she was facing, because she later told me she was thankful that I was patient enough to hear her whole story. I’ll be keeping these young ones in prayer, that’s for sure. In all, it was a good camp and I was blessed to be a part of it :)

Meet the Hopeful Hikers :)

Youth Camp 2011 – A Life of Abundance?.!

This time it wasn’t so much being a helper but it was also a time to be a camper as well. Thank God for the opportunity to get to know some people much better :) I was blessed by the messages that were simple yet so necessary to know and understand. It was a great week spent at camp and I’m glad I came back from camp w/o the flu bug. Everyone seems to be falling sick! :<

Well, that’s a summary of my two fruitful weeks spent at camps. Next up… KOREAAAAAA :)

The Big E

More than halfway through my exams, and so far, it hasn’t been all that good… Let’s just say, I’m glad those papers are over. ONE day and TWO more papers to go! Can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait for Friday to come! :)

Ahead

So finally we bid farewell to the semester. It was a rather trying few months, especially the second half, but well, by God’s grace I managed to pull through, and here I am – having completed Year 2 Semester 1. Now for the exams… I’m going to take things a little slowly this time round, but of course, try to put in as much effort as possible. But I am going to attempt to make it through this 2 weeks without any late nights (by late I mean anything after 1AM) and have as little stress, pimples, eye bags, dark eye circles as possible. hahaha it’s going to be an exciting albeit busy and tiring few weeks ahead, but I’m excited and ready for what comes my way!

Anyway just a note, it’s nice to receive a little encouragement sometimes, makes your day really (at least for me it did). :)
